The short answer

Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker comes out ahead by a narrow margin (4.3 vs 4.5). The gap is mostly about Specialty coffee enthusiasts who switch between light and dark roasts and want roast-specific temperature profiles, app-saved recipes, and the best single-cup batch brewer made today. — read the strengths below before deciding.

Bonavita Connoisseur 8-Cup BV1901TS
2 sources1 derived$189.95as of Aug 1

The Bonavita Connoisseur BV1901TS is the smartest value buy on this list: SCA-certified, a 1500W thermoblock heater, optional pre-infusion and a stainless thermal carafe at roughly half the Moccamaster's price. Home Grounds calls it the most affordable SCA-certified brewer made today. You give up a programmable timer and settle for a 1-year warranty. For pure brew quality per dollar, nothing else competes.

Strengths
  • SCA-certified at the lowest price in the category — Home Grounds calls it the most affordable SCA-certified option
  • 1500W thermoblock hits the 198-205°F gold-cup window in roughly 6 minutes for a full 8-cup pot
  • Optional pre-infusion mode wets grounds before brewing to off-gas CO2 — a feature usually reserved for $300+ machines
Watch-outs
  • No programmable timer or delay-brew — you have to start the brew yourself each morning
  • Carafe lid, filter basket, and showerhead are dishwasher-safe but the carafe itself is hand-wash only
  • 1-year warranty is the shortest in this category
Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker

Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker
3 sources2 derived$399.95as of Aug 1

Fellow's first coffee maker is also the most technically capable home drip brewer on the market: a PID thermoblock with programmable temperature phases, app-controlled recipes and the SCA's Best New Product award for 2024. Tom's Guide called the Aiden dreamy, and Coffee Chronicler said it makes better coffee than the Moccamaster. The asterisks are real (plasticky build, finicky app) but the cup quality is best-in-category.

Strengths
  • PID-controlled thermoblock with to-the-degree temperature control from 50-99°C per brew phase
  • SCA Best New Product 2024 winner — Coffee Chronicler said it outperforms the Moccamaster on light roasts
  • iOS/Android app saves bean-specific recipes, schedules brews, and downloads community profiles
Watch-outs
  • Mostly plastic construction at a $399 price point — Coffee Chronicler called it not quite as premium as other Fellow products
  • App requires sign-in every session with persistent Bluetooth connection complaints
  • Carafe's design creates flavor gradients that require a stir before pouring

How they stack up

Bonavita Connoisseur 8-Cup BV1901TS

Cheaper than the Moccamaster KBT 741 by roughly $160 and the Breville Precision Brewer by $140 while delivering the same SCA Gold Cup certification. Lacks the programmable timer that the Cuisinart DCC-3200P1 offers at a similar price, and lacks the temperature customization of the Fellow Aiden or Breville Precision Brewer. The clearest brew-quality-per-dollar pick in the category.

Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker

The most technically capable brewer in this category — outperforms the Moccamaster KBT 741 on light roasts via variable temperature profiles, and beats the Breville Precision Brewer on small-batch quality. Trades the all-metal builds of the Moccamaster and Bonavita Connoisseur for plastic, and trades the simple one-switch workflow of the Moccamaster for a fiddly app. If you obsess over cup quality and like dialing recipes, this is the pick.
