The detangling Motorbar fixes the oldest complaint
The revamped V8 inherits the detangling Motorbar head from the more expensive Dysons, and that single change addresses the hair-wrap problem that dogged the original. Vacuum Wars found carpet pickup excellent, handling everything from fine dust to large debris on low pile. Long hair still needs more attention than it does on the flagship with its conical Hair Screw head, though a small Hair Screw tool ships in the box for furniture and car seats. RTINGS rates the V8 7 out of 10 overall.
115 air watts, and you can feel the ceiling
On hardwood the V8 has 115 air watts to work with, less than half the 240 of the current flagship, which is enough for crumbs, dust and pet hair in one pass but leaves little margin on high-pile carpet and embedded debris. Vacuum Wars and TechGearLab both flag suction as the V8's defining limitation. There is no soft roller in the box and no illuminated head, so buyers with dark hardwood who specifically want to see the dust they are missing will not get that here.
Seven to ten minutes of Boost
Dyson rates the V8 at up to 40 minutes; TechGearLab measured 33 minutes on the low setting and only 7 on high, and Vacuum Wars confirmed 40 at the lowest setting. Treat Boost as a spot-cleaning tool rather than a mode you clean a room in. The battery on the current version is removable, which the original was not, so a spare pack extends the practical life of the machine at extra cost. A full charge takes about 4 hours, and the 0.53 L bin fills faster than the flagship's.
The lightest Dyson to carry up stairs
At 5.6 pounds the V8 is the lightest cordless Dyson, roughly a pound under the flagship, and the balance is why reviewers keep recommending it for stairs and handheld work. The wand is metal-jointed with no creak, the handheld conversion locks confidently, and four attachments ship in the box - a more generous kit than most rivals at this price. What is missing is everything electronic: no display, no particle sensor, no adaptive suction and no trigger lock, so you hold the trigger the entire time.
Filtration is the part that did not get cheaper
Sealed HEPA filtration captures 99.99 percent of particles down to 0.3 microns with no air bypass around the filter, and both the pre-filter and post-motor element are washable. That is the strongest argument for buying the cheap Dyson rather than a cheap non-Dyson: the allergen story does not degrade with the price. Emptying still uses the lift-and-shoot lever, which raises some dust, and the platform has been on sale since 2016, so long-term owner reports exist and mostly describe battery capacity loss rather than motor failure.
