Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro High Efficiency Airless Sprayer

Averaged from 1 derived from review text
The verdict

On paper the ControlMax 1900 Pro looks the best-matched machine here for exterior house work: 0.40 GPM is the highest flow in this group, it carries a 50 ft hose that extends to 100, and Titan rates it to 500 gallons a year. Its high-efficiency airless pump reaches those numbers at 1600 psi while cutting overspray by up to 55%. It sits last here for one honest reason: the only independent test we could find is Fine Homebuilding's, which benchmarked it against professional machines costing three times as much and marked it down hard for low pressure. Strong specification, thin and unenthusiastic review record — buy it on the numbers, not on consensus.

Full review

More flow and less overspray at once

The ControlMax 1900 Pro's headline number is 0.40 gallons per minute, and in this group that is the top of the table — ahead of the Graco Magnum ProX19's 0.38, and well ahead of the Graco Magnum X7 at 0.31 and Graco Magnum X5 at 0.27. What makes it unusual is that it reaches that figure while Titan's high-efficiency airless design cuts overspray by up to 55% against a conventional airless.

Those two properties normally trade against each other. Reducing overspray means atomising at lower pressure, and lower pressure usually means less material delivered per pass. Titan's approach is to pair a lower-pressure pump with a larger orifice and a higher volume, so the paint arrives with less energy but in greater quantity. The practical result on siding is a soft-edged fan that covers quickly without the fog cloud a 3000 psi machine throws.

Hose reach and annual capacity

Two specifications matter enormously on a house and are easy to overlook. The ControlMax ships with 50 feet of hose and extends to 100, against 25 feet included on both the Graco Magnum X5 and X7. That difference decides how often you stop, move the machine, and re-establish pressure while working around a building.

The second is duty cycle. Titan rates the ControlMax 1900 Pro to 500 gallons a year, matching the Graco Magnum ProX19 and quadrupling the 125-gallon rating on the X5 and X7. A two-storey house exterior in two coats runs somewhere around 20 to 30 gallons, so this machine is not being stressed by a house repaint the way a homeowner-tier sprayer would be. If you own rental property or expect to repaint outbuildings across several seasons, that headroom is the difference between a tool that lasts and one that fails out of warranty.

The 1600 psi ceiling, and what it rules out

Fine Homebuilding tested the ControlMax 1900 in their March 2026 prosumer airless round-up and recorded a 1600 psi maximum. Their tester's conclusion was direct: he would spend more for a sprayer with higher maximum pressure, a second filter and a more ergonomic gun. He also found the machine wanted maximum pressure to move thick primer, which leaves nothing in reserve.

That criticism is worth taking seriously with its context attached. The comparison set was the Titan Impact X 410 at $1,200 to $1,400 and the Graco Pro210ES at around $1,000 — production machines for painters who spray daily. Against those, 1600 psi is genuinely limiting. What it rules out in practice is heavy-bodied material: elastomeric wall coatings, masonry fillers and thick block primers want pressure this machine does not have. Standard exterior acrylic latex, stains and sealers are comfortably within range, and Titan explicitly rates it for unthinned coatings.

Unthinned paint at low pressure

The claim that most deserves scrutiny is that a 1600 psi machine sprays unthinned latex, because thinning is the usual compromise on low-pressure equipment and it degrades the weather film you paid for. Titan's specification is explicit that the HEA pump handles unthinned paints and stains, and the retailer listings for the 0580008 repeat it. The mechanism is the larger 0.019 tip, which passes more material per unit of pressure than the narrower orifices on the Graco Magnum X5.

The caveat is temperature. Low-pressure atomisation has less margin, and paint thickens as it cools. A gallon left in an unheated garage overnight will spray noticeably worse through this machine than the same gallon at room temperature, where a 3000 psi sprayer would brute-force its way through the difference. Bring material indoors the night before and stir it properly.

The cart on real ground

The ControlMax is cart-mounted, which is the correct configuration for exterior work — you roll rather than carry, and the machine, hose and paint move as one station. Compared with the stand-mounted Graco Magnum X5 this is a clear advantage on a job that circles a building.

The frame is tall and relatively narrow, though, and that geometry is less forgiving on the sloped, soft ground around a typical house than a wider stance would be. It is worth being deliberate about where you park it, particularly on a lawn after rain or on a driveway apron. A sprayer going over with a full bucket attached is an expensive and messy few minutes.

Where it beats the Graco machines, and where it does not

Against the Graco Magnum X5 and X7 the case is straightforward: the Titan has more flow, four times the annual capacity, twice the included hose, and substantially less overspray. The Gracos answer with 3000 psi, which matters only if your coating actually needs it, and with a much broader base of independent testing — Bob Vila, This Old House and Pro Tool Reviews have all put hands on the X5.

Against the Graco Magnum ProX19 the comparison is closer and comes down to the coating and the building. The ProX19 supports 150 feet of hose against the Titan's 100, and its 3000 psi handles heavy material the Titan cannot. The Titan sprays more paint per minute with far less waste in the air. For a standard latex repaint on a house with neighbours nearby, the Titan is the better tool; for a tall building or a heavy coating, the ProX19 is.

Strengths

  • +0.40 GPM is the highest flow rate in this lineup, ahead of even the Graco Magnum ProX19
  • +Titan's HEA technology cuts overspray by up to 55%, the rare case of more flow and less mess at once
  • +Ships with a 50 ft hose and extends to 100 ft — twice what the Graco Magnum X7 and X5 include
  • +Rated to 500 gallons a year, four times the annual capacity of the Graco homeowner machines
  • +Sprays unthinned latex, primers, stains and sealers despite running at low pressure

Watch-outs

  • 1600 psi ceiling is roughly half the Graco machines — heavy masonry and elastomeric coatings are out of range
  • Fine Homebuilding's tester, benchmarking against $1,000+ pro sprayers, wanted higher pressure and a second filter
  • Low-pressure atomisation is less tolerant of cold paint, so it wants a warm day and well-mixed material
  • Cart is tall and narrow, which makes it tippy on the sloped ground you find around a house

How it compares

The Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro out-flows every Graco machine here — 0.40 GPM against the Graco Magnum ProX19's 0.38, the Graco Magnum X7's 0.31 and the Graco Magnum X5's 0.27 — and matches the ProX19's 500-gallon annual rating while producing far less overspray. It shares the high-efficiency airless approach of the Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank but with roughly four times the hose reach and no tank to refill. It ranks below all of them here purely on published evidence: one critical review against the multi-outlet testing behind the Graco machines.

Graco Magnum X5 Electric TrueAirless Paint Sprayer
#1 · Top Score

Graco Magnum X5 Electric TrueAirless Paint Sprayer

The Graco Magnum X5 is the value anchor of this group: it matches the Graco Magnum X7 on pressure and unthinned-paint capability but gives up flow (0.27 vs 0.31 GPM) and the cart. Against the Graco Magnum ProX19 it concedes both flow and a 150 ft hose ceiling. It runs far higher pressure than the Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro or Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank, trading their reduced overspray for speed.

Graco Magnum X7 Electric TrueAirless Paint Sprayer
#2

Graco Magnum X7 Electric TrueAirless Paint Sprayer

The Graco Magnum X7 splits the difference between the Graco Magnum X5 and the Graco Magnum ProX19 — more flow than the X5's 0.27 GPM, less than the ProX19's 0.38, with a cart the X5 lacks. Against the Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro and Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank it runs far higher pressure, which buys speed and costs overspray. The annual duty rating here is a quarter of what the Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro carries.

Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank Paint Sprayer
#3

Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank Paint Sprayer

The Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank makes the opposite trade to the Graco machines: where the Graco Magnum X5 and Graco Magnum X7 run 3000 psi for speed, it runs high-efficiency airless for control. It shares that approach with the Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro but adds an onboard tank the Titan lacks. Against the Graco Magnum ProX19 it is slower by a wide margin and far cleaner. It is the only sprayer here that does not require a separate paint bucket.

Graco Magnum ProX19 Electric TrueAirless Paint Sprayer
#4

Graco Magnum ProX19 Electric TrueAirless Paint Sprayer

The ProX19 is the only sprayer here built for continuous whole-house work — its 0.38 GPM beats the Graco Magnum X7 at 0.31 and the Graco Magnum X5 at 0.27, and its 150 ft hose ceiling roughly doubles what the X5 supports. Against the low-pressure Titan ControlMax 1900 Pro and Wagner Control Pro 130 Power Tank it trades their reduced overspray for raw throughput. It carries more flow and far more hose than the Graco Magnum X7, but the X7 and Graco Magnum X5 have the broader independent testing record, which is why they rank above it here.
