The Wahl Color Pro Cordless Hair Clipper is a lightweight, beginner-friendly option for home haircuts, built around color-coded guide combs that make lengths easy to match. Groom Shaper and Nafis Grooming Lab note it weighs 7.7 ounces and runs on an older NiMH battery good for about 50 minutes, with a slow recharge, though Wahl says it can run while plugged in. The plastic body feels cheap, though Groom Shaper found it survived a drop test. It suits beginners and home touch-ups more than heavy or professional use.

Colour-coded guards from 3mm to 25mm
Colour-coded guide combs cover 3mm to 25mm, per Nafis Grooming Lab, and colour-coding them is the single reason this clipper suits beginners: there is no squinting at moulded numbers on black plastic in a steamy bathroom mirror. The guards click on positively and stay put through a pass, which is the usual failure mode of cheap comb sets and the thing that turns a haircut into a repair job.
About 50 minutes cordless on an older NiMH battery
The battery is an older NiMH pack rather than lithium-ion. Groom Shaper and Nafis Grooming Lab both put runtime at about 50 minutes (Wahl quotes 60), Nafis says a recharge takes around 8 hours and the clipper slows after the 40-minute mark, and Groom Shaper puts a full recharge from empty at about 12 hours. Wahl says it can run while plugged in and lists worldwide voltage support, so it remains a reasonable clipper to travel with.
Generic steel blades that still need oiling
Both cited reviews describe the blades as a generic steel set, though Groom Shaper found they do not dull quickly for the price. Hair left sitting on the blade is acidic and dulls the edge quickly, and a dull blade drags the motor and shortens run time, so the brush and oil in the box are not optional extras. Wahl says the blades are removable and can be rinsed under water to clear clippings.
A plastic body that feels its price
The housing is hard plastic and reads as light rather than solid; Nafis Grooming Lab calls the build cheap, though Groom Shaper found it passed a drop test. At 7.7 ounces that lightness is also why it does not tire the hand through a full head.
No taper lever, so blending relies on guards
There is no adjustment lever, so Groom Shaper notes that changing length mid-cut means swapping guide combs. It will not produce a skin-tight fade — that needs a dedicated balding blade and a foil shaver — and thick, coarse hair can cause slight dragging, per Groom Shaper. As a maintenance clipper for home haircuts and touch-ups it does the job; as a professional tool it does not.

- +Color-coded guide combs make it easy to match each length to the right guard
- +Cord/cordless operation lets it keep running while it charges
- +Passed Groom Shaper's drop test despite its plastic body
Watch-outs
- −Plastic body feels cheap, per Nafis Grooming Lab
- −Older NiMH battery runs about 50 minutes and takes around 8 hours to recharge, per Nafis Grooming Lab
How it compares
The Wahl Color Pro stands out for its lightweight design and color-coded guards, but it falls short compared to the Wahl Elite Pro in terms of power and the JRL Onyx in terms of advanced Smart-Clip technology. Its plastic build quality is less durable than the BaByliss Pro Silver FX+.

“I just feel like it gives a little bit more power, straight direct power. But, um it is my old clipper, so it's all yellow almost.”
