An 8-row brush and two 1.75-gallon tanks
The 3288 is closer to a rental extractor than to a household carpet cleaner, and the brush is why. Eight rows of DirtLifter bristles work embedded dirt out of the pile rather than lifting what is sitting on top of it, which is the difference that matters on ground-in pet traffic.
The tank capacity is the other half of the design. At 1.75 gallons each for clean and dirty water, a large room or a whole floor can be done in one go instead of in refill-sized instalments, which on a machine this slow to reposition is a real time saving.
Nine feet of hose for stairs and upholstery
The reach kit is what makes this more than a floor machine. A 9-foot hose with a tough stain tool and a two-in-one pet upholstery tool covers stair treads, sofa cushions and car interiors, and the 25-foot cord means the machine can stay put while the hose does the walking.
Odour rather than visible staining is what owners most often report it fixing. Used with the urine eliminator formula it removes smells that vacuuming and surface cleaning leave behind, which for a household with an incontinent or elderly pet is the entire reason to own one.
Forty-four pounds and no detachable tanks
The weight is not a footnote. At 44 lbs this is a two-hand, one-floor machine, and it becomes heavier still with both tanks charged. Anyone with stairs, limited strength or nowhere convenient to store it should treat that as disqualifying rather than as an inconvenience.
The tanks are not detachable either, so emptying dirty water means manoeuvring the whole machine to a drain. Owners also report the 25-foot cord being less robust than the rest of the build, which on a machine otherwise designed for hard use is an odd weak point.
Warm water in, multiple passes out
Two operating requirements shape the results. The machine wants warm tap water rather than cold to clean at its best, and heavily soiled areas generally need more than one pass, so a session takes longer than the tank capacity implies.
There is also a small maintenance trap: the clean-water tank cap seals on a gasket, and a missing or damaged one is the usual cause of the weak-or-no-spray fault owners run into. Worth checking before assuming a pump has failed.
Built for multi-pet households with real carpet
This is the right machine for a home with several animals, a lot of carpeted floor and somewhere on the ground floor to keep it, where the cost compares favourably against repeated professional visits. For light cleaning, small flats, or homes with mostly hard floors, it is more machine than the job needs and the weight will win in the end.
