The Gozney Tread is a genuinely hyper-portable propane pizza oven: under 30 pounds, with carry handles and almost no assembly. It heats fast and cools fast, which is what makes it workable at a campsite or a tailgate, and it gives up cooking area and stone thickness to get there. The 12-inch surface is unforgiving, the flame sits close to the food, and back-to-back pizzas need a pause. Buyers who put portability and speed first, and who will adapt their technique to a smaller, hotter oven, are the target.

Under 30 pounds, with handles for carrying
The Tread is built around portability first. It weighs under 30 pounds, has handles on top, and needs almost no assembly beyond fitting a metal guard and a battery for the ignition. Rubber feet keep it steady on a table, and the optional four-leg stand with a bubble level handles sloping ground. Packed down it fits a hatchback or a crowded tailgate, which is the whole point of the design and the main reason to choose it over a heavier oven.
Over 850 degrees in 15 minutes on the stone
Pala Pizza recorded the stone passing 850 degrees Fahrenheit after 15 minutes of preheating and approaching 1000 degrees by the 25-minute mark, and the same review found the exterior cool enough to touch roughly 20 to 25 minutes after the flame goes out. That fast cycle in both directions is what makes the oven practical away from home. The stone is thin, though, and it sheds heat quickly between launches, so consecutive pizzas need a pause for the surface to recover rather than a continuous run.
A 12-inch cooking area with nowhere cool to hide
The cooking area measures 12.2 by 15 inches and takes a 12-inch pizza, which leaves very little margin for error. The burner runs along one side and the flame sits close to the food, so toppings catch quickly unless the pizza is turned often. Dropping the flame to its lowest setting just before launching is the standard fix, and there is no cooler zone to slide a pie into while it recovers. Anyone used to a larger oven should expect to burn a few before the technique settles.
The stand, case and rack cost more than the oven parts
At $499.99 the oven itself is competitive, but the accessory list adds up fast: the stand, the carrying case and the roof rack are each separate purchases, and the case in particular drew complaints for being bulkier to haul than the oven it protects. The built-in thermometer reads air temperature rather than stone temperature, so precise work still wants an infrared gun. For a single-pizza-at-a-time cook who moves the oven around, that is an acceptable set of trade-offs; for a batch cook feeding a crowd, a heavier oven with a thicker stone is the better tool.
Strengths
- +Extremely lightweight at just under 30 lbs, making it easy to carry and move on and off stands.
- +Heats up rapidly, reaching over 850°F in 15 minutes and up to 900-1000°F within 25 minutes.
- +Cools down quickly, with the exterior becoming safe to touch in about 20-25 minutes after use.
- +Requires minimal assembly, needing only the installation of a metal guard and a battery for ignition.
Watch-outs
- −The small cooking area offers little wiggle room, making it less forgiving and prone to burning if the pizza isn't rotated frequently.
- −The high heat intensity requires careful flame management, often necessitating turning the flame to low before launching to prevent toppings from catching fire.
How it compares
The Gozney Tread is the clear winner for portability, weighing under 30 lbs compared to the 60+ lb Ooni Koda 2 Pro and Gozney Arc XL. While it heats up faster than the heavy Ooni Karu 2 Pro, its small 12-inch surface is less forgiving than the spacious interiors of the Ninja Woodfire or Ooni Koda 2 Pro, requiring precise flame management.
